It feels like we’ve waited an age, but finally, two highly anticipated arrivals are coming to PlayStation Plus in just a matter of days.
In June, Sony teased some of the games that will be coming to PlayStation Plus this summer. Two of those games were classic survival horror titles from Capcom, Resident Evil 2 (1998) and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999).
However, no exact release dates were provided as to when either of the beloved PlayStation titles would come to PS Plus.
Last year, Resident Evil: Director’s Cut (1997) came to the Classics Catalogue for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. Since that time, fans of the Resident Evil series have waited patiently for the entire original trilogy to come to Sony’s subscription service.

Thankfully, this week, Sony finally announced when the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 games are coming to PlayStation Plus, and you’ll be pleased to know that day is Tuesday, 19 August 2025.
Just like the version of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut currently available with PlayStation Plus Premium, both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 will not only look nice and juicy in crisp HD, but will also have rewind, quick save and various filter options.
If there was one snag, following in the footsteps of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, I doubt that Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 will have trophy support. That being said, it’s great that we’ll soon be able to play the original trilogy on modern PlayStation consoles.
One other benefit of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut coming to PlayStation Plus is that if you had purchased the game via the PS3, PSP or PS Vita store, you can download the game on PS5 and PS4 at no additional cost without a subscription. Hopefully, this is also the case with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.
