Resident Evil has been killing it with the remakes so far. The only exception was Resident Evil 3: Remake, which wasn’t bad but just too short.

We’re expecting some more remakes in the coming years, as Resident Evil: Code Veronica deserves a makeover and Resident Evil 5’s remake has already been teased.

After that though Capcom will be running out of games to give a fresh coat of paint to. They could go all the way back to the first Resident Evil game, or maybe Resident Evil 0, but you can play both of those on modern platforms anyway and visually they still hold up. It’s likely Capcom might start looking outside the Resident Evil franchise, hopefully at Dino Crisis.

In the meantime though Resident Evil 2: Remake is getting a re-release, in arcades of all places.

That’s right, Resident Evil 2: Arcade is a new first-person shooter that’ll re-tell the events of Raccoon City and see players face-off against terrifying adversaries, like Mr X for example.

It’ll be two-player with players taking control of either Leon or Claire, much like the dual-narrative of the second game.

This is more than just the usual shoot-’em-up arcade game though, as apparently it’ll give its players a “premier experience” by blasting air at you and vibrating the floor while you play, adding tension and making you feel like you’re truly stalking the halls of the Raccoon City Police Department.

It’s not the remake release we expected, nor really wanted, but it’s cool nonetheless and hopefully quite a few of these new arcade games get shipped worldwide, as I actually want to give it a go.

So far only America and Japan are confirmed to be getting the swanky new cabinets, with the U.S getting them later this year and Japan getting them in 2026.

As for other Resident Evil news, there are rumours that a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake was in production with Capcom once upon a time, but no longer. This suggests our next remake will be Resident Evil 5, which makes sense, but take this news with a pinch of salt as not all leaks are credible, obviously.

With Resident Evil: Requiem coming out early next year it seems likely that the next remake will be announced either just before, or just after the next game’s launch, so we’ll hopefully know more by February 2026.
