Red Dead Redemption fans losing their minds over new teaser

Oh it's happening, isn't it?

Summer Game Fest has drawn to a close for another year, so you may be thinking it’s set to be all quiet on the announcement front for the next few months, at least until Gamescom’s Opening Night Live in August.

You may be wrong to assume that though, as it sounds as if Rockstar Games is cooking up something special.

It doesn’t pertain to Grand Theft Auto VI this time; instead, it appears as if we could soon be revisiting the beloved Red Dead Redemption series.

Earlier this month, leaker NateTheHate reported that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be receiving a new-gen update later this year.

Believed to be launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with a Nintendo Switch 2 port dropping concurrently, the update will supposedly introduce a 60fps setting.

NateTheHate added that the update could drop in either August or September - but the plot has just thickened.

Actor Rob Wiethoff, best known for portraying John Marston, recently said the following during a livestream: “I’ve got such exciting news. I can’t share it with you right now and it’s absolutely killing me, [but] by the end of this week, hopefully sooner - not this week, not as soon as tomorrow, but definitely before Friday.”

“Oh my goodness, the news that I have to share,” he added, “And I won’t be the only one sharing it, I cannot wait for you to know what’s going on - and that’s all I can say. I’m not tryna be … that’s the only thing I can think about [...] especially while playing this game.”

I should add that by ‘this game’, Wiethoff was referring to Red Dead Redemption 2 which he was in the midst of streaming.

Naturally, fans have taken this outpouring as confirmation that a next-gen version is on the way, likely to be unveiled this week.

It certainly hard to argue otherwise but I will still urge you to take all of this with a pinch of salt, just until official confirmation lands.

You can imagine how it is though, fans are already hyped.

“Finally next gen versions, can’t wait to experience this masterpiece in 60fps,” wrote Icewallowcumin.

“Undead Nightmare with announcement of next gen versions,” theorised _B_035_.

“I think they will complete all previously canceled content that was half done already,” added Raitziger.

All I hope is that we’re not placing our expectations too high and Rockstar isn’t about to unveil a John Marston figurine that costs £600.
