Red Dead Redemption 2 finally has a 'New Game Plus', and you can play it now

Red Dead Redemption 2 players can now try out an unofficial New Game Plus mode thanks to a free mod.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most replayable single-player games ever. It’s so easy to get lost in the vast open world and just take in the sights. Who knows, look hard enough and you might even be able to find yet another new detail in the game. Even after all these years, that does keep happening.

Given its popularity, it’s pretty shocking that Rockstar Games never decided to release a DLC expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2. For that matter, I’m stunned that it’s yet to get a new-gen update (it was previously claimed by an insider that plans to do so may have been scrapped completely). Red Dead Online has also seen better days - last year, Rockstar confirmed that it’s basically done with the live-service title, and will no longer be adding any major new content to it.

Take a look at some of the funniest wins and fails from Red Dead Redemption 2 below.

With all that in mind, it’s quite a relief that everyone’s favourite yeehaw game still has a very active modding community. As DSOGaming reports, one Nexus Mods user, sezzco, has just released a super fleshed out unofficial New Game Plus mode for the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, and if you were looking for a sign to play through the game again this summer, this is it.

The experience is basically like walking into a fresh save file where the majority of extra things are already completed. Just to name a few things, all of the clothing options, reinforced equipment, and weapons are unlocked, and all of your cores are maxed out. On top of that, the full map is revealed, all treasure maps (except two) have been finished, and the majority of collectables and challenges have been found and beaten. Oh, and you’ll have a glorious level 10 beard.

What hasn’t been completed is the story, side missions and legendary animals, so there’s still plenty to do, but it’ll be a way more streamlined experience. For some, not having all the extras to do might defeat the point of the game, but if you’ve already spent countless hours exploring Red Dead Redemption 2’s world and just want to revisit the story casually, this is a great option.
