A modder for Red Dead Redemption 2 has brought back some of the first game’s iconic horses, expanding the game’s roster of loyal steeds.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a phenomenal game with a rich story, expansive open-world, and charming characters, but it’s missing something … more horses. A new mod aims to fix that problem, by bringing back the various horse breeds found in the original Red Dead Redemption that didn’t make their way over to the prequel.

Titled 'RDR1 Horse Overhaul' and created by user goldenplaysterraria, the mod adds seven horse breeds to the game that were originally found in the first instalment of the series. While the changes are purely cosmetic, it’s nice to have a bit more variety, as just about any horse can be tamed and kept as your own personal mount. With the mod installed, there’s more of a selection to choose from, if you have a certain colour or pattern that you favour over others.

Take a look at some of our favourite Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.

Fans have been restoring a lot of Red Dead Redemption content with mods recently. This has ranged from map expansions that bring back some of the iconic locations from the first game’s open-world, or straight-up remaking the first game with the updated graphics of Red Dead Redemption 2. Some fans have even resurrected the dead once again with the return of the Undead Nightmare DLC, which unfortunately didn’t feature in the recent entry.

It’s obvious fans are dying to see the first Red Dead Redemption return in some way, whether it be an expansion of the story with Red Dead Redemption 3, or a complete remake of the first game for current-gen consoles.

Fans hoping for the latter will be glad to know the voice actor for the fan-favourite protagonist John Marston is more than happy to return to the character in a remake/remaster. He also said he’d be interested in returning for a third game as well, and even has some ideas as to what story elements or characters could be included.
