Red Dead Redemption 2 gets 10 new John Marston fan missions you can play free

Despite Red Dead Redemption 2 being out for over five years, fans are unwilling to hang up their cowboy hats just yet. Luckily for them, there are ten brand-new John Marston missions you can play entirely for free.

Although the majority of fans believe Arthur Morgan was a better protagonist than John Marston, there is no denying that both cowboys are much-loved video game characters. With 2010’s Red Dead Redemption telling John’s story while Red Dead Redemption 2 continued on with Arthur’s side of things, we got our fair share of time with both men.

However, many fans wanted more John Marston and luckily for them, one modder has come to the rescue.

Courtesy of kazyllis on Nexus Mods, the mod Becoming John Marston adds ten brand-new short missions to Red Dead Redemption 2. These allow players to “travel back in time to play through some of John’s core memories from his teenage years”.

The missions will help tell the story of how John came to be a part of the Van der Linde gang and will span over the course of two years between 1884-1886 when the gunslinger was just 11-13 years old.

As you can probably guess, the mod will allow you to switch to a model of a teenage John who we meet tied to a tree and threatened by outlaws until he is rescued by Dutch himself. What follows is a series of short missions that show John learning the basics of gang life including hogtying enemies, hiding from outlaws and picking up odd jobs.

With Red Dead Redemption 3’s tease leaving some fans divided, many believe Rockstar is going to have a hard time beating an already perfect game. However, with the studio hard at work on Grand Theft Auto 6, it may be a while until we head back to the frontier.
