PlayStation Plus' new freebie is a 'hidden gem'

Gamers are singing the praises of platforming title Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, which is currently free on PS Plus Extra.

You know what time it is - it’s time to make sure that your backlog never gets completed.

April’s wave of new PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games is now here, and there’s plenty of good stuff to get stuck into. One of the main highlights is Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which GAMINGbible’s own Kate Harrold has managed to convince me to play solely based on the fact that you can give your little Rot pals hats to wear. On Reddit though, gamers have been highlighting an excellent and seriously underrated platformer that you need to try out.

While you’re here, take a look at the trailer for one of last month’s lovely PS Plus Extra additions, Tchia, below.

I’m of course talking about Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, which Reddit user STO_Ken dubbed as “this month's PS+ hidden gem”. They wrote: “I really love the art style which is incredibly detailed and has animations for everything, as well as the silly story which basically involves your uncle getting drunk and turning the town into humanoid animal creatures. Anyway, I think it's probably a game people might sleep on because they aren't really sure what it is, but would actually enjoy it if they gave it a try.”

Others fans totally agree: “Lovely game. It’s also a decent challenge in a non-retro way, which the cartoon art style may not imply,” EarthInfern0 commented. “Enjoyed it and the OG back in the day. Good stuff,” wrote Drizztd99. “This is probably one of the most fun Metroidvanias I ever played!” Jonkar__ added.

If platformers aren’t your thing, fear not. Gamers have also been singing the praises of the roguelike deck-building game Slay the Spire, and are adamant that it “shouldn’t be ignored” amongst all the other good stuff.

Both of these games are available on Extra tier, so there’s no set deadline to claim them by. Just be sure to give them a go when you can.
