PlayStation's latest free game is an award-winning GOTY contender

PlayStation users have been loving the post-apocalyptic action-adventure Days Gone, which was added to PS Plus Extra last month.

PlayStation Plus’ Extra-tier game catalogue has had some genuinely fantastic additions in recent months, so much so that it’s genuinely getting difficult to decide what to play next.

Earlier this week, Sony announced that from Tuesday 18 April, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will be able to get their hands on a bunch more great games, including Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Slay The Spire and Doom Eternal. Given that last month, gems like Ghostwire: Tokyo, NEO: The World Ends with You and the delightful day-one release Tchia were added, PlayStation users just keep on winning. However, one particular post-apocalyptic action-adventure game has been picking up loads of new fans since its addition.

Take a look at the trailer for Days Gone below.

Seriously, it seems like everyone and their grandma has been getting stuck into Days Gone. It’s seen a huge resurgence in popularity, and although it didn’t have the best reputation when it first released in 2019 (a simpler time), some have now gone as far as to call it one of “the best zombie games of all time”.

Believe it or not, fans are still petitioning for a sequel, long after it was confirmed that it’s just not happening. With that said, back in 2019, Days Gone won both PlayStation Game of the Year and Best Storytelling at the Golden Joystick Awards, so it’s pretty shocking that it’s seemingly never going to get a follow-up.

Days Gone was added to the Extra-tier library last month, but it’s also available as part of the PS5’s exclusive PlayStation Plus Collection, even for Essential-tier subscribers. Those who claim it via the Collection will be able to play it any time as long as they have an active subscription (like any other Essential-tier freebie), but that whole offer is ending on 9 May, so be sure to claim it and all the other titles in the Collection while you can.
