The Blood of Dawnwalker is being lauded for many of its features, but its storytelling is chief among them.
Rebel Wolves’ debut title follows dawnwalker Coen in a race against time to save his family from the vrakhiri vampire leader Brencis.
He has 30 days and 30 nights to complete that task, with The Blood of Dawnwalker players allowed to spend that time however they please.
There are no ‘main’ quests, per se. Your only goal is to defeat Brencis and you can head straight to his castle, but the idea is that you’ll meet allies and gain gear by completing various quests around the map.

There are more quests in the game than you have time slots, so you won’t be able to see everything the first time around.
As such, players on social media have taken to advising other players which quests are unmissable and which you should perhaps just abandon.
What I’m here to tell you is that one of the game’s best stories is actually a prequel hidden away in The Blood of Dawnwalker’s menu screen.
Blood to Blood is a thrilling prequel telling the tale of Xanthe and Iasmina
Unfortunately, this prequel is currently only available in the Eclipse Edition of The Blood of Dawnwalker which is essentially the game’s answer to a deluxe edition.
If you do have that version, you’re going to want to click on ‘Extras’ where you’ll find a digital comic book by the name of Blood to Blood.
The comic book is set before the events of the main game and actually charts the vrakhiri’s arrival in Vale Sangora.

It centres around the character of Boyar Xanthe, one of Knyaz Brencis’ three vampire lords.
In the comic book, we learn about the noble household of Stugai, led by Lord and Lady Stugai and their daughter Iasmina.
I’m loath to actually delve into the narrative beyond this but you’ll get an idea of what the vrakhiri’s takeover looked like and how the residents of Vale Sangora adapted to this new world order.
However, most importantly, it provides the crucial backstory of Iasmina and her history with Xanthe as you’ll actually meet Iasmina in the main game.

That’s all we’ll say on the matter, but the main game’s already rich storytelling is made so much more powerful if you read this comic book before embarking on Xanthe’s quest.
“The Blood of Dawnwalker has a comic inside the extras area in the game menu. And the story is really cool, and it doesn't have an ending. It seems like its finale is going to be in the game… I love it when little games throw in stuff like this,” highlighted Twitter/X user MatolaN7.
“Good catch,” replied the developers of the game, so if you have the Eclipse Edition and haven’t yet read Blood to Blood, do it as soon as you can.
