Within The Blood of Dawnwalker, your goal is to kill Brencis and save your family. As for how you do that, well, it’s up to you.
Rebel Wolves’ debut title is essentially a choose-your-own-adventure game.
You have 30 days and 30 nights before you need to confront Brencis, but what you do within that time frame is up to you.
While you can head straight to his castle, I wouldn’t recommend it. You should recruit allies and find gear - plus if you don’t, you’re missing out on the game’s brilliant storytelling.

Once you’ve completed ‘Between the Words’ in the Anca questline, you’ll unlock the quest ‘A Monk and a Saint.’
It’s a quest that many players complete early on in their playthrough given that Anca’s questline is the only pre-existing active questline when you venture out into the open world. All others have to be discovered.
During ‘A Monk and a Saint’, you must journey to Svartrau Cathdral in search of answers about Saint Mihai, a legendary figure who apparently died trying to save Vale Sangora from evil.
The hope is that finding Mihai’s remains will reveal something Coen can use in his fight against Brencis.
‘A Monk and a Saint’ can be completed at night or during the day, and the quest will unfold differently depending on which time frame you’re in.
It’s the night version of the quest that we’re here to talk about today. Light spoilers for this quest lie ahead.
Don’t be tempted to drop down from Svartrau Cathdral’s rafters
The night version tasks you with scaling the rafters of Svartrau Cathedral, studying the ceiling’s frescoes for clues.

Below you is vampire lord Boyar Xanthe, conducting some kind of blood ritual.
If you fall from the rafters or simply decide to jump down, you’ll be forced to confront Xanthe, where your only choice is to kill this Boyar or die.
It’s something that a surprising number of players are doing, dispatching the Boyar early without ever having to complete any of their infamy quests.
That may seem good on the surface; you're killing Xanthe without having to waste a ton of time segments, freeing those up to complete other quests.
What you may not realise, however, is that you’re locking yourself out of one of the game’s best quests.
“You'll be tempted to kill Xanthe EARLY during the Cathedral investigation quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Don't. You'll thank me later,” wrote Twitter/X user SicklyTheNinJa.
“Do yourself a favour and play Xanthe's boss fight as intended in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Don't take the shortcut and go after her earlier. Instead, make her angry and let the quest play out,” added KindredBlade. “I completed it today and I'm in utter disbelief. The level of writing in this quest is insane. Such moments stay with you for a long time, maybe even forever.”
Obviously, we’re not going to spoil the contents of Xanthe’s quests. But we do recommend reading Blood to Blood, the Eclipse Edition’s digital comic which acts as a thrilling prequel to this segment of the story.
If you have killed Xanthe, don’t worry. The Blood of Dawnwalker is intended to be replayed, boasting more quests and activities than you have time slots, so just heed this advice on your next journey with Coen.
