Jak And Daxter Returning On PlayStation 5, According To New Rumour

Jak to the future.

Before Naughty Dog became best-known for Uncharted and The Last Of Us, there was the Jak And Daxter series. Very much a clear stepping stone between Crash Bandicoot and the Uncharted games, this series of action platformers is considered by many to be a beloved relic of the PlayStation 2 era.

Unfortunately, the celebrated duo have been gone for quite some time now. The last time we saw Jak And Daxter was when the first three games in the series were remastered for the PlayStation 3 in 2012. This collection was later ported to PS4 in 2017... but we haven't had an entirely new game since 2009. It's been too long.

The good news is that it sounds like something is on the horizon, even if it's not the brand-new game we might have been hoping for. According to a new report, Bluepoint Games is working on a remake of the first three PS2 Jak And Daxter games. It's also being suggested that this collection will be released as a launch title for the PlayStation 5, with a reveal coming soon.

As always, I'd advise you take this with a pinch of salt for now. Especially since the "leaks" appear to have originated on 4Chan. The original post claims that the trilogy will be a "complete remake," and that Bluepoint wants to be even more ambitious in making changes than they were with the 2018 Shadow Of The Colossus remake for PS4.

It also suggests that the trilogy will include numerous original narrative threads in order to tie the three games together more cohesively, and that some ex-Naughty Dog staff are helping with the project. Apparently the project is to be revealed during Geoff Keighley's ongoing Summer Game Fest, so we shouldn't have long to wait to discover the truth.

Bluepoint had previously teased that its next project was a big one. However, reports suggested that it was likely to be a remake of either FromSoftware's Demon's Souls or the original Metal Gear Solid. The idea that it could be Jak And Daxter has rather come out of nowhere, then... but I suppose it's entirely possible that the studio could be working on more than one remake after the success of Shadow of The Colossus, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

With the PlayStation 5 reveal supposedly taking place early next month, people are certainly going to want to learn more about launch games. Let's hope Bluepoint can deliver.
