Starfield officially goes gold, and the hype is real

Bethesda have confirmed that Starfield has officially gone gold, confirming pre-download dates.

Oh lawd. It’s happening. Bethesda have said those magical two words that we’ve all been waiting to hear. That’s right. Starfield has gone gold. Cue excited screams.

Starfield is sure to be a GOTY contender if Bethesda can truly pull off all that they’ve promised. The game is due to have over 1,000 planets so it’s no surprise that it has an “astonishing” number of side quests. There are various branching paths you can take and multiple factions to join - and I do wonder how long a completionist playthrough is going to take. Thankfully, Todd Howard has confirmed that the main campaign itself should be doable in 30 to 40 hours which is a reasonable length. Earlier this week, Bethesda dropped a brand new story teaser as the game nears its release and now we know that Starfield won’t be subject to any further delays. It’s gone gold.

Take a look at the latest Starfield trailer below.

Announcing the news, Bethesda took to twitter to write, “Prepare for launch. Starfield has gone gold! Preloads begin tomorrow for Xbox X|S and Windows PC and August 30 for Steam.” Yep, that’s right. Pre-download dates have been confirmed too so I expect all my fellow Xbox owners to get up bright and early tomorrow to set this chungus going. PC fans will then be able to get in on the action on 30 August.

Earlier this week, one Starfield dev did assure us not to worry after fans questioned why the game hadn’t gone gold. Clearly, we’re all lacking patience on the final countdown, but that’s to be expected when we’ve waited as long as we have for this game.

Don’t forget that Starfield will be released on Xbox Game Pass on day one. If you do want to gain five days early access though, you’ll need to pay to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition.
