We all knew Starfield was going to be a big game, in fact, it’s the biggest game Bethesda has ever together, with each planet reportedly having a map that’s thousands of times larger than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Check out the story trailer for Starfield below

While the main story will likely be enough for some people, it’s surprisingly short when you consider the size of Starfield’s galaxy. This means the real meat and potatoes will be in the exploration and side content, and according to a Bethesda producer, there’ll be a lot of it.

During a developer interview with Starfield producer Jamie Mallory, a question arose about the side content featured in the game, as well as the factions we’ll find and interact with during our adventures.

Mallory described the number of faction quests as “astonishing”, saying each one is like “embarking on a grand adventure within an adventure, where every choice you make and every interaction you have shapes the course of the tale.”

Players will reportedly have to find these factions and questlines themselves, but will likely be shown where to look at some point during the main story.

Interestingly, Mallory also alluded to a “main golden path storyline” which hints that Starfield may be one of the few Bethesda games to not have multiple endings and that all players will arrive at the same conclusion throughout the adventure, just taking different routes to get there.

This is obviously unconfirmed, and given how previous Bethesda titles, except Skyrim, have all included some form of multiple-choice ending, it’s more than likely Starfield will follow suit. It does imply that the side content will be entirely separate though, with the factions having no real presence in the main story, aside from the occasional mission or reference.

Regardless of the destination, it's the journey that matters most, and it sounds like Starfield will leave its players spoilt for choice in terms of options. Expect to sink thousands of hours into this one, especially if you want to see everything its galaxy has to offer.

Starfield will launch on the 6th of September later this year, exclusively for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
