Starfield's entire galaxy has already been mapped, and it is stupidly big

Some crafty Starfield fans have mapped out the game’s galaxy prior to its launch, and it’s as expansive as you’d expect.

All eyes are on Bethesda at the moment, which is just weeks away from launching Starfield, the Xbox and PC exclusive that everybody is talking about. The developer has promised big things for its brand new IP, and while the majority of its fans are excited, many are sceptical on whether the game will deliver, especially in terms of performance and bug-free gameplay.

Take a look at Starfield's gameplay below

All pressure is on Starfield’s open-world, which will supposedly feature over 1,000 planets, with each one having a larger map than Skyrim. Players will be able to explore each planet at will, in a starship of their own design, plundering them for natural resources, meeting the locals or building a base to call home.

Recently, a group of fans used snippets from Starfield’s trailers and marketing material to map out the entire explorable galaxy, confirming that it is as expansive as Bethesda claims.

The Starfield Navigator was created using a program that apparently reconstructs the approximate positions of the planets featured in the game, using some of the gameplay footage as a reference point. I won’t attempt to explain all the complex calculations and algorithms involved, but the end result is simply fantastic.

An entire map of Starfield’s galaxy is now readily available weeks before its launch, and it concludes that the scope of the game is massive. While it’ll be easy to fast travel between the different systems and worlds, there’ll be a lot to discover, which will likely be great (or bad) news for those wanting to 100% the game.

Obviously exploring several planets and locations will be featured in the main story, like New Atlantis, but for the most part, it seems the rest of the galaxy will make up the game’s side content, as well as pit stops to gather some more supplies for progression.

Starfield launches on the 6th of September later this year, exclusively for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
