Despite being over two decades old Halo: Combat Evolved still has a few secrets left to find, almost all of which have their uses in speedrunning.

One speedrunner has discovered some never-before-seen tricks that are going to completely change the way speedruns are done in the first Halo game.

You can play Halo: Combat Evolved as part of the Halo: Master Chief Collection on Xbox and PC platforms.

The tricks were discovered by speedrunner and former Microsoft software engineer Mr Monopoli, and can be done without the use of mods in the game.

The runner shared the newly learned glitches on X, saying “Using new glitches I've discovered a way to possess a flood infection form in Halo 1 without mods. You can fully control it and even climb 90+ degree walls and even ceilings!”

He went on to share another trick that allows the player to “play as an Elite in Halo 1 without mods.”

The final trick they shared involved becoming the “first person to fly a pelican on Halo 1 without mods.”

Master all of these tricks and you can quickly learn to finish Halo: Combat Evolved in record time, so you can expect some impressive speedruns in the future once they’ve become mainstream.

Of course none of these were intentionally left in the game by Bungie when the game was first developed, but after 23 years and no more involvement in the Halo brand, I don’t think they’re going to mind.

All of these tricks can apparently be performed on normal versions of the game on Xbox or PC, without the need for mods or other support tools.

The Halo franchise continues to be a speedrunners dream, and with par times built into the Master Chief Collection encouraging players to beat levels as quickly as possible, new tricks and glitches like these keep things interesting.
