Xbox Game Pass users are praising a new shooter dubbed as “perfect” and “breathtaking”, so by the looks of it, it’s one worth checking out for subscribers.
Xbox Game Pass is packed full of hundreds of games, which, depending on your subscription tier, can be played in an instant. It includes everything from newly released first-party titles such as Forza Horizon 6, third-party delights like Cyberpunk 2077 and indie darlings, such as the game that is this article's topic of discussion.
That being said, it can’t be ignored that in recent months, Xbox Game Pass had initially become more expensive, but that was until the price dropped. However, that price drop did come with one major caveat, it has to be said.
The game in question is called Luna Abyss, developed and published by the indie team at Kwalee. Judging by its gameplay trailer, Luna Abyss kind of looks like a cross between BioShock and the bullet-hell shooter, Saros.
“You are a prisoner sentenced to explore a derelict megastructure that sprawls deep beneath the surface of the mimic moon Luna. You are tasked with recovering forgotten technology from within the Abyss and the lost colony it consumed. Every move you make will be overseen by your artificial prison guard named Aylin,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“These centuries-old ruins are alive with maddening echoes, insinuating secrets of the once prosperous city of Greymont and its terrible fate. The Scourge. The tenets of the All-Father. The choir of the Collective. The voices of the Abyss call to you; they whisper strange missives…”
“Luna Abyss is pretty great and breathtaking,” announced Reddit user IdanT.
“It’s the perfect Xbox Game Pass game,” said Head-Tumbleweed2565.
“The atmosphere in this game is insane; that lighting and colour work makes every area feel like its own thing,” explained goofy_stamina. “The gameplay loop gets repetitive if you're grinding for upgrades, but the world design keeps pulling you back to explore more and see what's around the next corner.”
“No one has commented on how inspired by Metroid Prime the minute-to-minute gameplay is. It’s a great game,” added Cvnt-Force-Drama.
“I absolutely loved it. Exactly what I needed right now. Subjective 10/10, objective 8/10,” declared Working_Bones.
On the aggregate website Metacritic, Luna Abyss has scored 81 from critics and 6.3 from users. On Steam, it’s currently rated as “Very Positive”. If you’re interested in knowing how long it might take to finish Luna Abyss, according to HowLongToBeat, it can take between eight and 11 hours, depending on your playstyle.
Luna Abyss is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
