Xbox has just added a brand new free download that any user can go ahead and download now, with no Game Pass required to play it.

As announced by Square Enix earlier this week, a new demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has just hit Xbox platforms, coming to Series X/S and the Xbox on PC platforms.

It’s also launched on Nintendo Switch 2, giving players the chance to play early ahead of the game’s full release on these devices on 3 June.

The demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is actually pretty chunky. You won’t just be playing a short, 15-minute segment of the game but actually get to experience a huge chunk of its opening.

In terms of the actual content present inside the demo, it features the Nibelheim flashback with Cloud and Sephiroth, as well as the Grasslands open region. Altogether, it’s a few hours of gameplay, spanning combat, exploration, and some side content.

This also gives you the chance to look at new systems like Synergy Abilities and Streamlined Progression.

Once you’re done with the demo, you’ll be able to carryover your save data and in-game bonuses into the full release when that drops on 3 June.

It’s safe to say that with so many excellent RPGs launching over the year, such as The Blood of Dawnwalker, Gothic 1 Remake, and Crimson Desert, Final Fantasy fans are bound to get some enjoyment out of this.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Is The Second Entry In Square Enix's Blockbuster Remake Trilogy

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth had previously enjoyed a successful run on PlayStation 5 and PC, earning a 97% recommended score on OpenCritic and winning over 40 awards, including numerous Game of the Year accolades.

The second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, the game continues the plot from its predecessor, adapting the middle act of the original Final Fantasy VII which sees Cloud Strife and his companions from AVALANCHE as they escape the dystopian city of Midgar.

Pursuing the villain Sephiroth across the planet, the party continues their attempt to prevent him from uniting different timelines and merging the Lifestream to achieve godhood.

We reviewed the original PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth back in 2024, awarding it a full 10/10 marks.

Our Dan said it has “some of the best gaming moments I’ve experienced in recent years. From fights that are as cinematic as any blockbuster movie, to quiet moments of emotion that filled my eyes with tears. I wanted to reach the conclusion as fast as possible to find out what happened next, and yet I wanted to eke out every minute as I didn’t want my time with these amazing characters to end.”

The demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox PC and Nintendo Switch 2. PlayStation 5 gamers can also download the demo as well, if they wanted to.
