Steam users have something new to play over the weekend, one of Xbox Game Studios’ hottest games before its launch later this month.

Xbox’s first-party offering has unfortunately seen quite a noticeable dip in quality of the past few years but there are some noticeable exceptions.

The company’s 2026 line-up is liking decent so far and new leadership is steering Xbox’s attention back to what really matters, the players.

Double Fine Productions rarely misses though and Steam users can play its next game for free right now before its April launch.

Kiln-
Double Fine Productions

Claymation Perfection

Kiln was announced during January’s Xbox Developer Direct and is “an online, multiplayer, pottery party brawler”.

It sees players sculpt a team of the finest clay warriors with a magical pottery wheel before unleashing them on an opposing team to claim ceramic supremacy.

While the quality of your sculpted pots will play a factor in battle you’ll also be able to take full advantage of special abilities to morph yourself into different objectives.

For instance the game’s trailer on YouTube shows players taking the form of a spiked mace as well as a golf club to turn the tide at pivotal moments in a match.

The overall objective is to extinguish the enemy’s kiln before they can extinguish yours, with chaos ensuing on either side of the battlefield.

How To Play Kiln Prior To Its Release Date

Since Kiln is an online multiplayer game, it’s only natural that it’d have a beta for players to dive into.

You’ll be able to find that beta on Steam right now, and it’s open to everyone so you all get a chance to try it before you buy it.

If you do end up liking it you’ll be pleased to hear the full game costs around £15 for the standard version which for a Double Fine game sounds like an absolute steal.

Games like Psychonauts and Keeper have solidified Double Fine as one of the best developers in the business so Kiln will no doubt sit comfortably amongst the studio’s other bangers.

Kiln will officially be released to the masses on 23 April which is only a couple of weeks away.

The game will also launch as yet another day-one Xbox Game Pass title for gamers on both Xbox Series X/S and PC, though Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the tier you’ll need to play it.
