Steam's new free open-world game has some of the best graphics I've ever seen

A new and utterly gorgeous game is being premiered on Steam currently and is free to play today. Europa is an open-world game that features beautiful environments that will leave your jaw on the floor.

Europa is currently available to play through Steam's Next Fest, on PC and Steam Deck, which showcases upcoming titles by releasing demos across the platform.

Take a look at the game in action below.

This painterly world feels truly unique while still wearing traditional inspirations on its sleeve. In the trailer, we see the central android character, Zee, exploring the moon of Europa after it has been terraformed. Lush grass waves like brushstrokes, waterfalls ripple and crash while Zee seems to glide across the surface of the water.

With traversal tools that allow the player to see every corner of this world, Zee will glide through the air buffeted by air currents. The game boasts 'free-flowing movement' that makes Zee look especially fluid in the way he moves from point A to point B, switching between skills and abilities.

Europa features "a breathtaking world of lakes, meadows and mountains to explore, scattered within the remains of a fallen civilisation." The world of Europa is one to surely stun players when the game launches in 2024. The visual style feels Ghibli-inspired and certainly leans into Nintendo's more recent Zelda installments.

This demo of Europa is 30 minutes in length and it will definitely leave you wanting more. The game promises lots of puzzles and mysteries to solve across the moon, while you explore for details on the ancient race who preceded Zee's creation.

The developers have noted that Europa is "an intimate story about growing up and humanity’s relationship with nature." This is shaping up to be a visually arresting game that offers a slice of escapism to everyone who takes control of Zee.

There is no solid release date on this one, so it's worth keeping an eye on the Steam store page for when more details drop.
