A new free-to-play title recently landed on Steam, and it has thus far maintained an impressive 100% approval rating from players.
If you’re looking for something to play this weekend, Stellar Witch might be it.
Published by Jungle Game Lab, this one’s a “grid-dodge action game with inventory management” which, worry not, I will unpack.
“Become a star-powered witch on a journey to become the Grand Mage. Collect gold in battle, buy and place constellations, and use their powers and synergies to fight ever-stronger enemies,” the synopsis reads.

Placing constellations is essentially a glorified version of Tetris, where you’ll need to slot certain shapes within a grid.
Eventually, you’ll press to begin battle which’ll see the constellations you’ve linked activate, fending off a series of foes.
It’s a tricky concept to explain but the trailer does a great job of demonstrating exactly what it is that you should expect.
Once the battle has begun, it’s then your job to dodge and avoid enemy damage.

I’d personally consider it a strategy game, as not only do you have to fit the constellations within the grid, but you’ll want to pay attention to their stats to synergise and create certain attacks.
As I said, it’s got an impressive 100% approval score from its Steam players.
“I was drawn in by the cute art style. Each stage feels like a wild mix of a sugar high and an anime dream — and I mean that in the best possible way. Is it chaotic? Absolutely. Do I always know what’s going on? Honestly, not really. But is it fun? Undeniably, yes,” read one review.
“Fun little bullet hell with a twist. Making the player design an interactive board to run across while you dodge the bullets was inspired. Great design considerations,” added another.

There’s no word on the game’s runtime yet but it appears that reviewers have at least clocked up a handful of hours.
What I do want to point out though is the game’s use of AI as, fair to say, it’s something that many of us find off putting and distasteful.
Stellar Witch’s developers used AI for the “game title idea, base of main character design concepts, background music, [and] some sound effects,” so do take that into consideration.
