This brand new Gundam-esque game on Steam looks like a lot of fun… so much so that I already have it installing while I write this.
There are a lot of mecha games out there, but while I do love the third-person, action-gameplay focused ones, I do love the Front Mission series.
That’s why today’s latest free game example is making me a little hype, because it’s been a long while since I played a game that scratches that same itch.
Mecharashi on Steam is a free-to-play, turn based mecha gacha game from developer BlackJack Studio, and the reviews on this one have convinced me to give it a go for myself.

“Fun turn based strategy with mechs and the gacha feels pretty generous and doesn't get in the way of having fun”, commented Steam reviewer limafoxtrot16.
“Mech management and combat is fairly basic but its a good story and overall fun.”
“Easily recommended for fans of mechs and turn-based tactics, as long as you don't mind some gacha/mobile elements”, writes Steam user Darkclaw3050.
“What's there isn't intrusive as far as free to play games go, you can get hours out of the story alone ignoring any of the gacha. The presentation is superior to Front Mission which it draws heavily from, if they made this a buy-once game it would hold up to any in the genre.”

However, while the game is sitting at a “Mostly Positive” rating (as of writing), it’s on the borderline.
A lot of the negative reviews say the gacha elements are a little too predatory, whereas other reviews say it’s pretty easy to play the game without spending a penny… so I think it may be a case of either the positive reviewers getting good luck, or the bad reviewers getting really, really bad luck.
Ultimately, you’ll have to play it yourself to find out, but admittedly I am pretty keen to give this one a go, so I’ll report back soon with how free-to-play friendly it truly is.
