A mysterious Pokémon project appears to have come to light ahead of tomorrow’s Pokémon Presents.
Yes, tomorrow is a major day in the calendar of Pokémon fans. The franchise will celebrate its 30th anniversary, as it was on 27 February 1996 that Pokémon Red and Green first landed.
That day has always been known as Pokémon Day, with a Pokémon Presents showcase typically held in recent years to coincide.
This year is no different, with fans expecting a bumper crop of announcements. Many are hoping for a Gen 10 reveal, believed to be called Wind and Waves, although that remains unconfirmed.
Project Karasu Is Reportedly In Development
CentroLeaks, however, has surfaced with yet another tease, this time linking to a project known as Project Karasu.
Advert
Project Karasu is reportedly “not Gaia DLC”. The context you need here is that Gaia is allegedly the codename of Gen 10, or Wind and Waves, if rumours are to be believed.
Strangely, Karasu is also a “mainline” project according to CentroLeaks, leading to tons of confusion as to what the project might be.
There is often a hint in the codename of a project.
If Gen 10 is called Winds and Waves, it seems apt that Gaia is the mother of the Earth, encompassing the sky and sea.
In Japanese, karasu means crow but I’ll be honest, I can’t draw a meaningful conclusion from that.
Had CentroLeaks not specified that this wasn’t DLC relating to Gen 10, that would have been my first guess.
I can only imagine then that we might be looking at some kind of spin-off.
Twitter/X user soulsilverart reports that the codename didn’t exist as of 2024, so Project Karasu is a recent addition to the Pokémon roster.
As such, it’s unlikely we’ll see it actually surface any time soon. Surely we’re not looking at the codename for Gen 11 already?
Pokémon hasn’t exactly done very well with its mainline entry DLCs in recent years, with even the most hardcore fans dropping them after a few weeks.
I wonder if Karasu is some kind of evolution of the formula?
It’s perhaps also worth considering whether this is another Legends game following on from Arceus and Z-A. Personally, I wouldn’t class those as mainline, but maybe some do.

Whatever happens, we’ll be here to bring you the latest Pokémon Presents updates tomorrow.
The showcase kicks off at 2pm GMT / 6am PST / 9am EST / 3pm CET. It’ll be followed by the launches of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
