Gen 10 is finally set to be ours next year with the arrival of Pokémon Winds and Waves.
Already, expectations are incredibly high, especially as both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet failed to impress with their basic visuals.
Gen 10 will be the first to be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, so that should allow for devs to aim a little higher than we’ve previously seen.
If Pokémon Winds and Waves look remotely like their reveal trailer, we should be in for a great time.

There’s very little we actually know about what the game will offer beyond the fact that Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua are our starters.
Those three are the typical Grass, Fire, and Water types, but rumour has it that Pokémon Winds and Waves will actually introduce an interesting new Water/Flying-type.
This leak comes from Twitter/X user BallGuy who’s teased that a bird-fish hybrid ‘mon is on the way.
A lot of the Water/Flying types featured in the franchise to date have been aquatic birds. The idea of a flying fish is, well, something a bit different.
“New basic mon,” BallGuy captioned an image depicting the supposed new ‘mon, which appears to have been taken from a prior Game Freak data breach, so we won’t be embedding it here.
There is such a thing in real life as a Flying Fish, although they use long wing-like fins to leap and glide across the water briefly more so than fly in the traditional sense.
The pixelated ‘mon featured in BallGuy’s image doesn’t look too dissimilar
I’d guess that we’ll actually see a couple of Flying/Water types this generation. After all, it is called Winds and Waves.
There is some speculation due to the retro aesthetic of the leaked ‘mon that it might actually be a scrapped design brought back for Winds and Waves.
Of course, all leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Not only do Pokémon Winds and Waves need to improve upon what was offered in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but they also need to live up to the hype of Pokémon Pokopia.
Pokémon Pokopia is a spin-off, certainly, but it’s also the highest-rated Pokémon game of all-time, a proven console seller, and an all-round internet sensation.

Nintendo really struck gold with it and with Pokémon fans brimming with joy, satisfaction, and happiness, it’s more crucial than ever than Pokémon Winds and Waves actually deliver.
Gen 10 is due to launch in 2027.
