Honestly, roguelites aren’t really for me, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t know greatness when I see it.
Roguelites have a positively moreish quality.
Yes, maybe it’s something I haven’t quite experienced first-hand but let me tell you, I have seen my friends pour hours into the likes of Slay The Spire and Hades like you wouldn’t believe.

Well, actually, if you’re a fan of rougelites, you probably can very much believe that.
If these games are to your liking, then BALL x PIT may be a game you want to check out … if you’re prepared to lose even more of your precious time to this compelling genre.
Developed by Kenny Sun and set to be published by Devolver Digital, BALL x PIT is a “brick-breaking, ball-fusing, base-building survival roguelite”. That’s a lot of b’s.
“BALL x PIT is a fast-paced fantasy roguelite where heroes must find the balls to plunge deeper into a seemingly bottomless pit of monsters. Develop arcane ammunition and resources in pursuit of treasure, recruiting additional heroes to aid you in your perilous quest,” reads the synopsis.

As teased, there’s a dark fantasy feel to BALL x PIT; it feels as if you could be within the world of The Elder Scrolls or a FromSoft creation.
BALL x PIT takes place in Ballbylon which has fallen, resulting in the formation of an “ominous, yawning pit” where the great city once stood.
Treasure hunters flock to the pit to find Ballbylon’s scattered treasures, yourself included, but treasure isn’t the only thing you’ll find down there.
The pit is filled with barbaric creatures you'll need to fend off using various magic-powered projectiles.

The goal? Overcome the monsters, obtain the treasure, and rebuild Ballbylon.
The treasure comes in the form of … balls … which you’ll need to … fuse together.
Chuckle if you want, we’re only human.
Fusing balls together can create combinations that’ll help you journey on, resulting in hundreds of possible outcomes and runs.

Unfortunately, BALL x PIT lacks a release date for now, but a free demo has just been launched on Steam offering a slice of the action.
If you’re on PC and I’ve even tempted you a tiny bit, it’s well worth giving the demo a download.
