Helldivers 2 Posts Mysterious Binary Code, New Cyborg Faction Confirmed

The fight for Super Earth continues

Helldivers 2 has released another cryptic tease for its incoming faction, the Cyborgs, and they certainly don’t come in peace.

The ongoing story for Helldivers 2 has been a stroke of marketing genius as Arrowhead Studios makes the players the main characters.

Updates for the game are delivered as if they’re real-life transmissions from Super Earth to its elite army of helldivers, but the latest message warns of something dire on the way.

The official Helldivers 2 X account posted a cryptic binary message and re-designed its profile imagery, hinting at a hostile takeover from what’s looking like a new enemy faction coming to the game. Check it out below!

Players quickly translated the binary code to say "SUPER EARTH PEOPLE. DO NOT BE AFRAID. WE ARE NOT HERE TO CAUSE HARM.”

At first glance you’d expect this to be a message from the automatons considering they’re the main mechanical threat you face in the game, but previous teasers have indicated the Cyborgs from the first game are making a comeback.

Players who watched the teaser for the Siege Breakers Warbond are adamant they could hear a cyborg in the background. I’ll be honest I wasn’t listening closely as I was too preoccupied thinking about the obvious Halo: Reach reference.

It seems like this new teaser is a bit more on-the-nose, and we’re expecting the next official trailer to reveal the new threat in all of its mechanical glory.

What will be really interesting to see is how Arrowhead weaves the new faction into the story. Helldivers 2 uses a lot of satirical humour and takes heavy inspiration from Starship Troopers. While players may feel like heroes, the lore goes deeper than you’d think, putting into question if the aliens you’ve been fighting are actually evil or just trying to survive.

The cyborgs are an even better example of this as in the lore they’re a sub-faction of humans that broke away from the “democracy” of Super Earth to start their own civilisation, so while their return might be seen as a hostile invasion they might be coming back to save humanity rather than enslave it.

It’s all quite fascinating and like I said before Arrowhead have done an excellent job at keeping players invested in the story by making them part of it.
