Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake rumours are causing a social media buzz once more after a release date window surfaces, and it might arrive sooner than we think.

Despite being around since 1996 and being immensely popular since its debut on the original PlayStation, arguably, Capcom’s Resident Evil series is hotter today than it’s ever been.

Sure, the Resident Evil series has had its fair share of ups and downs, but for the most part, fans of the iconic survival horror series have been blessed, and hopefully, next month's release of Resident Evil Requiem will be no exception.

While fans were flawed following the most recent Resident Evil showcase hosted by Capcom, starring the aforementioned Resident Evil Requiem, I just hope that Leon S. Kennedy’s segments do not fall into the same trap as a cursed 2012 release.

Capcom Knows How to Remake Resident Evil

Resident Evil Evil 7: Biohazard, released in 2017, is often credited with getting the series back on track with its heavy focus on horror and tension. Yet, it might be fair to say that the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 is a point where a new legion of fans was introduced to the series.

Since the Resident Evil 2 remake, we’ve been treated to remakes of RE3 and RE4. Now it seems that Resident Evil Code: Veronica is the next game in the series to get a much-needed makeover.

Rumours of a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake are nothing new, with speculation continually making the rounds. Sure, we should take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt, but with a release window speculation resurfacing, I am hoping that there is no smoke without fire.

When a fan congratulated industry insider, NateTheHate, for being voted ‘Leaker of the Year 2025’ on Reddit, they asked if there was truth behind the Resident Evil Code: Veronica rumours.

“Yes, Code: Veronica is being remade and is deep in development. The target of release is the first half of 2027,” he replied.

Why Should Resident Evil Code: Veronica Be Remade Next?

At least when it comes to the mainline entries in the series, chronologically, Resident Evil 5 should be the next remake and, to be fair, there have been some rumours that the adventures of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar could be next.

Following 2020’s Resident Evil 3 remake, many fans were hoping that the next game would be the remake of 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica. However, Capcom decided to go with Resident Evil 4 in 2023.

Understandably, many fans (present company included) were disappointed that Resident Evil Code: Veronica was being overlooked, but if there is truth behind the recent rumours, that no longer looks to be the case.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica is still a fantastic game. But for new fans, its old-school tank controls and outdated visuals may be off-putting to some, compared to the slick Resident Evil 4 remake. Furthermore, at the time of writing, Resident Evil Code: Veronica is approaching 26 years old since it first launched on the SEGA Dreamcast in 2000.

The gap between the original Resident Evil and the 2001 remake on the Nintendo GameCube was just five years. The gap between the original Resident Evil 2 and its remake is 21 years.

If the claim from NateTheHate is true, that Resident Evil Code: Veronica will arrive in 2027, that gap would be a whopping 27 years. So to say that revisiting Rockfort Island with Claire and Chris Redfield is long overdue would be an understatement.

As always, we keep you posted if we hear more on this developing rumour. As for Resident Evil Requiem, that will be released on 27 February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
