There really is something a lot more visceral about horror games over other forms of scary media, as the power is literally in our hands to either escape the horrendous threat put in front of us or, as so many characters in horror franchises often do, simply die to it.
It’s also one of the most saturated genres in video gaming right now, and any new project coming along has to do a lot to stand out compared to a field filled with genuinely solid efforts from innovative developers.
Fortunately, one is on the way that really does look to try some new and exciting things in the genre, and it has just dropped a free demo that’s going down very well with fans early on, serving as a good sign that the final game may blow past people’s initial expectations.
ALYSSA is Blowing People Away With Non-Stop Scares

Over on the Steam storefront, you should be able to find the page for the upcoming horror release ALYSSA, which follows a young girl who finds herself in a dark and terrifying mansion.

The game plays heavily with reality and our perception of it, serving up some pretty disturbing imagery and frightening enemies, which we have to work through in the diminutive form of a young child.
Carrying only a small lighter to give us a better look at what’s going on, our main goal is to get out of this dark and evil place as quickly as possible.
Though the full game isn’t out yet, a new demo has drawn plenty of praise from fans, who can’t wait for the full release further down the line.
"I'm not a fan of games in this type, and they can often be disappointing and not scary at all, but in this demo, I jumped out of my chair and closed my eyes a few times. It's a really fun, atmospheric demo," one review reads.
"What a solid demo this was indeed! Stellar graphics, great sound design/atmosphere, loved the designs of the characters and the creepy mannequins. Overall, pretty solid. Cannot wait to see what the full game has in store!" another added, optimistically.
A third said, "Interesting original story and gameplay. Definitely has some potential. Would recommend giving this demo a shot if you're into horror."
The demo is obviously available to download and play right now, with the full version of the game set to follow in Q4 of 2026.
