There are a ton of free-to-play titles available on Steam; so many, in fact, that it can be difficult picking out what’s worth trying.
Well, that’s why I’m here to point you in the direction of Wires And Whiskers, a wonderful new co-op action puzzle game.
This one’s developed by the students of ISART Digital, a video game and 3D FX animation school based in Montreal, Canada.
Just because this is a student project though, you shouldn’t expect to find anything amateurish.

This is a very accomplished co-op adventure packed with interesting puzzles and fast-paced combat.
“Wires and Whiskers is a local co-op action-puzzle game where two players control a lab-engineered gerbil and its magnetic exosuit,” the synopsis reads.
“Work together to fight mutated enemies, solve magnetic puzzles, and survive in a ruined, post-apocalyptic trench world.”
As hinted at by the synopsis, both players will have a different role to play.

The gerbil character is able to carry out melee dashes, while the exosuit can execute long-range attacks and engage with magnetic interaction systems.
Co-ordinating these powers is key to overcoming Wires And Whiskers’ “mutated enemies and unstable tech”.
The game can be completed in around 30 minutes or less, so it’s a quick one to fit in if your backlog is screaming, “Please, no more.”
Perhaps the only major downside is that Wires And Whiskers is local co-op only, so you won’t be able to play with a friend online.

That hasn’t stopped players from showering the title with positive reviews, with Wires And Whiskers sitting at a 90% ‘Very Positive’ approval rate.
“It has everything you want of a game. Good visuals, smooth controls and a story! Best played with a friend who will yeet you off into oblivion,” wrote one happy customer.
“A short yet charming game. Lots of potential,” added another.
I’ll certainly be giving this one a whirl.
