Steam free download will take hundreds of hours of your life

It has me hooked already!

Be warned, if you play this free Steam download, it’s going to take hundreds of hours from your life, so prepare to say goodbye to your loved ones.

Few indie games in recent years have hooked me quite like Unpacking, a charming title developed by Witch Beam and released in 2021.

I never thought much about Unpacking until I played it. A game, as the name suggests, is about unpacking, and it’s accompanied by lovely sprite visuals and an endearing soundtrack. It’s also probably the most relaxing game that I’ve ever played.

Yet, without giving too much away, as you finish each puzzling stage, you’ll soon start to realise that Unpacking has a wonderful story that tells the tale of a woman’s life through the years.

Each stage is a new home and era in her life. I won't say much more, but seriously, you need to play Unpacking ASAP. It’s available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Anyway, let’s get to the game that is the topic of today, that has Unpacking vibes, and it’s the new indie game developed by Skye <3 called Unboxathon.

“Unboxathon is a cute, content-packed incremental game about opening mystery boxes,” reads the description of the game on Steam.

“Find rare items, upgrade your skills, and unlock new boxes and features! Collect shiny items, pop bubble wrap, and materialise artefacts out of thin air. Can you find your lost childhood plush?”

Much like Unpacking, the gameplay trailer for Unboxathon has lovely sprite visuals, a zen soundtrack and sound effects that trigger all sorts of sensory feels.

Unboxathon does not have a release date at the time of writing, but it does have a free playable demo that you can download from Steam right now. You can also add it to your wishlist to be notified of any updates.

I’ll be hoping that Unboxathon gets a console release because I’d love to play it on my Nintendo Switch one day.
