The new year has arrived. Many of us are back to work today and if that applies to you, I do hope you’ve managed to squeeze in some time to relax over the festive break. As delightful as Christmas can be, it’s also a pretty busy and demanding time.

Whether you’re back at work, university, or school, it’s important that we continue to carve out some time for rest and relaxation, and we’re all familiar with the benefits of gaming on our mental health by now. With that in mind, I have the perfect cost-free aid. You can currently check out three upcoming Steam releases on the site for free. It’s a dose of entertainment to see you through these final few wintery months before the spring arrives and try-before-you-buy and double whammy. The games available to sample are The Night Is Grey, Bounties of Babylon, and Tiny Breakers Camp.

Take a look at the trailer for The Night Is Grey below.

Let’s start with The Night Is Grey. Developed by Whalestork Interactive, the game is set to launch on 5 January but a free demo is available to sample now. The synopsis reads, “Graham is alone in a forest filled with strange wolves. While he’s fleeing for his life he finds a lost girl in an abandoned lodge that won’t survive without his help. Try to find their way to safety in this game filled with puzzles, engaging dialogue and innovative storyline.” This horror puzzle adventure is giving major The Last of Us meets Oxenfree energy - and I’ll definitely be giving it a go.

Next up is Bounties of Babylon. This multiplayer turn-based strategy game comes from Cartographic Interactive and aims to provide “that sit-down tabletop experience in a shorter-timed digital format”. The game doesn’t have a launch date just yet, but you can now request access to the free playtest.

Finally, Tiny Breakers Camp is perfect for those of you who enjoy a top-down 2D roguelite. This one comes from JuTek Pixel and the synopsis reads, “It is time for true heroes to stop an evil invasion that is spreading across our land. Face enemies from the deepest caves and dungeons in an engaging brick-breaker style of fight. Bring peace and justice to your homeland yet again.” Tiny Breakers Camp also boasts a free demo which is available to sample now.
