Steam drops 10 new free games you definitely missed

Alright, hear me out: the horse girl game is genuinely peak

Ten free games just dropped on Steam, but the real question is… are they actually any good?

Well, the horse girl game definitely is. Look, just read the article before you judge me for a sentence like that.

As always, thank you in advance to the Free Steam Games Twitter account for collating the majority of these games!

Alright, so, I usually rank these by which games appear to look the best in ascending order.

However, this time around, I can’t do that. Why? Well, according to the Steam reviews, these are all bangers. There’s usually at least one terrible game in these lists, but not this time around.

To that end, I’m just gonna lay these out in a random order. Here we go.

Vegetables of Mass Destruction is an action roguelite from developer and publisher Dumpster Diver Studios, where you fight robots as a raccoon. Surely you don’t need me to sell you on this one any further.

Midnight Riff is a "true rhythm roguelike" from developer and publisher Project Funk Engine. This one is only a demo for the time being, but the reviews on it are ridiculously positive.

Retro Space Shooter 8-Bit from developer and publisher Other Games is, uh... well it's a retro, 8-bit shooter. This one very much does what it says on the tin.

Sneaky Pirates is a pretty interesting take on naval combat from developer and publisher Knights of the Gray Matter. It sounds like it's a bit of a take on Prop Hunt, in a very roundabout sort of way, where you try to blend your ship full of pirates into a crowd of regular ships.

Lost Island is a cute little exploration focused-RPG from developer Joachim Küpfer and publisher Ghomeff. Don’t let the basic-looking graphics fool you, because the reviewers seem to love this one.

Whispers of the Village is a puzzle, interactive novel hybrid from developers Whispers of the Village and publisher Rubika Supinfogame. By the sounds of the reviews, this one is a must play simply due to the vibes.

Satori | 悟り is a psychological horror game from developer and publisher Black Phoenix Productions, and this might be the creepiest-looking title I've ever seen on one of these lists. Might have to try this one for myself, just to see if it’s as unsettling to play as it appears.

Serious Survivors is an "explosive roguelike boomer shooter" from developer and publisher Entropy Surfers, and the reviews on this one are very positive. Clearly just a bit of a Serious Sam clone, which is assumedly why they gave it away for free.

Abyssborne is a dark fantasy roguelite (take a shot for every time I say "rogue" in this article) from developer and publisher Alexco Games. Reviews on this one are super positive, and it's easy to see why from the screenshots.

And finally, Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a simulation sports game from developer and publisher Cygames, Inc.– and it currently has an "Overwhelmingly Positive" score on Steam, with almost 8,000 reviews (95% of which are positive).

Yes, it’s a game where you race horse girls. Yes, it’s a gacha game. Yes, I understand that admitting to liking this game is a permanent stain on my record.

However, you’re gonna have to trust me when I tell you that, unfortunately, this game is actually kinda awesome. I’m not happy about admitting that, but it’s true.

And that’s the whole list! Catch you back here in a day or two for another one of these. In the meantime, play the horse girl game. I promise you won’t regret it.
