Steam has just dropped a huge free RPG for you to download and keep.
If you’re in need of something to play, having a quick browse of the new releases page on Steam can usually bring you inspiration.
One of the latest new releases is a free RPG set in the Persona franchise, following on from previous greats like Persona 5: Royal and Persona 3: Reload.
Imagine if you took the story of Persona 5 but twisted it to fit into a free-to-play gacha system. That’s pretty much what Persona 5: The Phantom X is all about.

It’s a spin-off of Persona 5, where the gameplay of the series has been tweaked to fit into a free-to-play mobile format.
Although Persona 5: The Phantom X is still set in the same universe as Persona 5, and carries over a similar gameplay and setting, you’re not playing as Joker and his gang this time.

Instead, you’re a brand new protagonist in an alternate timeline of the story.
Obviously, expect the game to be more of a gacha, with time-progressing tasks and unlockable, grindy content to work towards. If you’re a Persona fan and also a fan of these types of games, you should enjoy this. But it’s obviously not for everyone.
This isn’t the first Persona 5 spin-off, and considering how popular Persona 5 has been for the brand as a whole, it likely won’t be the last either.
In the past, we’ve had other Persona 5-related releases such as Persona 5: Royal, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Persona 5: Strikers, and Persona 5: Tactica. So, that makes The Phantom X the fifth Persona 5 spin-off.
