Steam has just dropped a brand new free game with overwhelmingly positive review ratings that you can download now.
From time to time, you’ll get a brand new free game that quickly becomes a hit with certain crowds of gamers.
I’m thinking back to the Fortnite and Apex Legends craze, or that summer where we all went bananas over Among Us. If something is free and interests a particular audience, there’s no doubt people will latch onto it.
The latest big thing seems to be a new gacha game with the title Umamusume: Pretty Derby, based on a popular Japanese mobile game and animated TV series.

With everyone describing Umamusume as a “horse girl gacha racing game”, I assumed this meant it was a gacha game for horse girls. But after looking into it, it turns out the game is actually a game where you race as horse-girls.
If you’re still confused, essentially the franchise is set in an alternate reality where great racehorses are reborn as anime-style girls, but get to retain their speed and agility from when they were a horse. I think that’s it, anyway.

It’s part racing, part visual novel, and seems to be racking up quite the audience online. As of writing, Umamusume: Pretty Derby has 6.3K viewers and 79.6K followers on Twitch, making it one of the most popular games being streamed on there right now.
The reviews for the game are overwhelmingly positive too. It currently has a 95% positive review score on Steam. Fans are giving it a thumbs up rating, indicating that they recommend it.
Prior to the Steam release, Uma Musume Pretty Derby existed as a manga and anime series since 2016. The game also originally launched as a free-to-play mobile game in 2021, delayed from its initial planned 2018 launch.
