Nine bangers can currently be yours to try for free on Steam right this second, and I know all of these are bangers for once because I curated this list myself.
Alright, we’re skipping ordering these from worst to best this time around, because these are all heaters. If you don’t like any of the games on here, I’m sorry, but you have terrible taste.
First, and certainly not least, Umamusume: Pretty Derby from developer and publisher Cygames, Inc.
Yes, it’s a horse girl racing simulator. Yes, it’s a gacha game. Yes, if you ask me if I’ve played this game in public, I will deny it. Unfortunately, it’s peak. Shout out to Northernlion for convincing me to play the stupid anime horse girl game.

Next up, Hellkind from developer and publisher Motamot.
This is a short, but completely free little horror game that I do not want to tell you anything else about. Just trust me on this one. If you like spooky stuff, you’ll love this.
Moonlight Traveller is a cute little sidescrolling Souls-like from developer and publisher Blueprint Core.
I noticed that some of the reviewers on Steam noted that this has some technical issues, mainly controls-related, that I did not encounter myself, but otherwise the reviews on this are solid. For free, this is a banger.

No, I'm not a Human is a single-player horror game from developer Trioskaz and publisher CRITICAL REFLEX.
Now this one is just a demo for the time being, but lemme tell ya– that demo has earned its “Overwhelming Positive” score on Steam. I covered this one a while back and ended up playing the demo afterwards, and I legit think the full release could be in contention for the indie GOTY (if it sticks the landing).
Haste is a 3D platformer from developer and publisher Landfall, although calling it a 3D platformer is kind of underselling things.
I loved the demo for this one so much that I just ended up buying the full game on the spot, and I’m super glad I did. This game handles ridiculous speed in such a stupidly satisfying way. Recommended for fans of games featuring blue hedgehogs.

BALL x PIT is a bullet hell action roguelike from developer Kenny Sun and publisher Devolver Digital.
If you’re familiar with Kenny Sun’s other work, then you probably don’t need any more convincing on this one. I’ve played this one for hours already, and I’m already beyond excited to waste more time in the full release.
vivid/stasis is a rhythm, visual novel hybrid game from developer Team Vividstasis and publishers Hajimeli and SKY HOUR WORKS.
I, quite literally, just played this one a few hours ago, and it deserves a go if you are in any way rhythm-game inclined. I don’t want to spoil too much about this one, because there is surprisingly a lot to spoil, but you get the full game for free.

Baby Steps is a walking simulator (literally) from developers Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy, and publisher Devolver Digital.
If you’ve heard of Bennett Foddy, you should know what you’re in for here. It’s silly, it’s annoying, but most importantly, it’s very, very funny. Quietly excited for the full game to drop soon.
And finally, Scale the Depths from developer and publisher Glass Gecko Games.
When a game, especially a fishing game, describes itself as “relaxing”, I’m usually inclined not to take that at face value. There’s nothing “relaxing” about spamming square on my controller and then having my line break because video game fish are little pricks. That being said, the vibes are off the charts in this one. The demo genuinely chilled me out to the point that I got an early bedtime (not a joke).

And that’s the whole list! Well, this is the best one of these you’re ever going to read, because I have the best taste in video games. Not just on this site, but in the entire world. There really isn’t much point in reading another one of these ever again because of that.
Oh, unless I wrote it, of course. Then you can read it.
