Steam’s latest free download is something you could lose hours to, but you’ll need to bring a friend.
If your wallet has already been vanquished thanks to the Steam Summer Sale, luckily there are a bunch of free games and demos out there for you to check out.
If you have a second player with you, one new free demo in particular looks like a great way to kill a few hours of your time.
Embroideryvania is a new game in development that is described as “the first split-screen couch co-op metroidvania”.

If that sounds a little confusing, the official description on the Steam store breaks it down to be a little clearer.
“Explore a one-of-a-kind embroidered metroidvania world in split-screen, local couch co-op, with a companion,” the official description reads. “This gem is perfect for players who’d like to introduce someone who doesn't play video games to the hobby.

“You play as a snail visiting a plant park, identifying plants you’ve never seen before. Customize your shell by finding unique designs in the world.
“Uncover mysteries and get safely lost in this peaceful world, as there are no enemies or combat to worry about. Only you, your companion, and the surrounding environment.”
Embroideryvania is still in development and doesn’t have a release date yet, however you can pick up the free demo and check out a small portion of the game now.
Obviously, you’ll need a mate to play it with in split-screen co-op. Thanks to Steam’s Remote Play Together feature, that at least means you don’t need to be in the same room as each other to play.

As for when Embroideryvania could see a general release, no information on that has been shared yet. You can keep up to date on development by wishlisting it on Steam, though.
