Resident Evil Meets Stranger Things in New Survival Horror

Looks like quite the ride

This Steam game looks like one you’ll probably want to play when Stranger Things Season 5 drops.

I’m going to be honest, I’m not bothered about Stranger Things Season 5. I’ve seen all the previous seasons but my interest in each one has slowly dwindled. That said, I'm happy everyone else is excited and perhaps this final season will surprise me.

Stranger Things probably won’t see any more video game adaptations either but Quite A Ride looks like the next best thing, as it’s a horror game that takes place on a bike ride.

Like the kids (now adults) in Stranger Things or perhaps the Losers Club in It you’ll cycle down a long, winding road and see horrors beyond human comprehension.

The description reads: “Pedal through the fog, but never look back.Trapped in a constantly shifting horror, you must ride, conserve your phone's battery, and decode cryptic messages to escape. Explore, survive, uncover the truth.”

Words don’t quite do it justice, you’d be better off checking out the gameplay footage. The art style is gorgeous and you get a little dog companion, which may or may not transform into a monster part way through the story. I genuinely don’t know but for some reason I don’t trust the dog.

The atmosphere seems on point too, as sometimes it’ll look like nothing is wrong and then there’ll suddenly be something lurking in the fog, it’s very Silent Hill-coded.

There’s some Resident Evil charm to the game too but unlike Leon Kennedy I don’t think you’ll get to suplex anything in this game.

Horror games are great and while the latest AAA releases like Silent Hill f are very impressive I think indie horrors like this one have more appeal. They tend to be more creative and really push the boundaries when it comes to concepts and scares, and Quite A Ride doesn’t seem to be any different so far.

I’m eager to play it for myself but like many of these upcoming Steam games there isn’t a release date at the time of writing.

The game’s store page even lacks a planned release year so there’s no telling when it’ll see the light of day. Hopefully it comes out later this year though as it’d be a great game to play around Halloween, or the new Stranger Things season.
