Dino Crisis gets a surprise spiritual successor on Steam, and to be fair, it looks quite decent.
Ah, Dino Crisis, Capcom’s other beloved survival horror of the 90s on the original PlayStation. In a nutshell, Dino Crisis can be described as Resident Evil with dinosaurs, which was a winning formula from the get-go.
Well, the first game released in 1999 can be considered as a survival horror game, whereas its sequel the following year leaned heavily into action rather than slow-paced tension. As for the games that followed Dino Crisis 2, it all pretty much went downhill, unfortunately.

Still, despite the series' shortcomings following Dino Crisis 2, fans have longed for Capcom to give the original game the modern Resident Evil remake treatment.
There has been no official announcement by Capcom that we’ll be getting a new Dino Crisis anytime soon, whether it's a remake or a new story, but at the very least, Capcom has tested the water with fan interest. So, fingers crossed.
While we wait twiddling our thumbs for a new Dino Crisis, fans have taken matters into their own hands by releasing what can be considered as spiritual successors, of sorts.
One such game is called Rip Current, developed by the indie studios, Breaking Dimensions and Polygon Dust Entertainment.
“Rip Current is a tense, atmospheric single-player survival horror game set in the depths of a research facility where humanity’s desperation to save the planet has birthed something far worse,” reads the description of the game on Steam.
“You play as Carter, a special operations contractor sent to investigate the sudden radio silence from Post Salvos, the facility at the heart of the project. Upon arrival, it becomes clear that the experiment has gone wrong.”

Played in a first-person perspective, you can tell as soon as the gameplay trailer for Rip Current rolls that this is a low-budget indie game, but despite that, it looks like a lot of fun.
At this time, Rip Current is set to launch on Steam, 23 September 2025.
