We can't lie, Elden Ring isn't August's most-exciting Nintendo Switch 2 release

Nintendo Switch 2 owners are counting down the days until Elden Ring finally launches on the console.

It’s been many months in the making as the Elden Ring port was delayed from 2025 to this year, but will finally launch on August 28.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will include the full game, plus DLC, and some new cosmetics/starter classes, which will be available as paid content packs for other platforms.

Before embarking on another quest to become Elden Lord though, consider a different souls game you can play right now on your Nintendo Switch 2, Lies of P. We’d even argue it’s better than Elden Ring in some regards.

Lies of P is a twisted take on Pinocchio that I promise you’ll adore

After launching in September 2023, Lies of P has acquired quite a large fanbase, but it’s nowhere near as popular as FromSoftware’s work. Hopefully, the recently released Nintendo Switch 2 port will see it garner some new supporters, and you should be one of them.

Lies of P: Complete Edition, much like Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, is the full game plus the DLC expansion Overture.

Combined, that’s over 55 hours of gameplay according to HowLongToBeat, if you plan on doing side-content.

My own playthroughs on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 ran flawlessly and I was delighted to see the Nintendo Switch 2 version be just as good.

It felt like there was little to no sacrifice in terms of performance or visual quality despite being on Nintendo’s hardware. It just felt like good ol’ Lies of P, but this time I could take it on the go.

Bloodborne fans will get a kick out of it instantly because it’s a game that rewards a bolder playstyle. After taking damage, you can replenish a bit of your health by striking your opponent, so trading blows becomes a high-risk, high-reward strategy for melting bosses.

Lies of P will give you just as much of a challenge as some of FromSoftware’s work, and I’d argue that the Overture expansion is actually harder at times. However, if you’d rather just experience the story, past updates added difficulty modes that’ll make life a bit easier.

Elden Ring remains one of my favourite games and while I’m excited to play it on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this month, Lies of P’s re-release got me more excited.

As good as Elden Ring is, I’ve always felt its scale to have diminishing returns on repeat playthroughs. Unless I’m feeling committed, riding around the map to collect items I want for my build starts to feel like I’m shopping rather than playing a game.

Lies of P is much more linear, and as such, it’s more enticing for a repeat playthrough. The different weapon combinations also provide the necessary depth to keep those umpteenth runs feeling fresh.

When Elden Ring lands on the Nintendo Switch 2 it’s going to be a historic day, but I’d implore you to consider that it’s not the only spectacular souls game available on the console. Lies of P is an all-time great and it deserves its flowers.
