Elden Ring New Release Update Leaves Gamers Disappointed

Go back to sleep Tarnished

Elden Ring players are disappointed to hear the latest release is getting a delay, all the way to 2026.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is a complete and enhanced version of FromSoftware’s latest soulslike, which packages together the base game as well as its DLC expansion, Shadow Of The Erdtree.

Not only that though, it also aims to add some new content in the game for your character to equip themselves with, like new outfits.

It’ll also be bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch 2, a nice precursor before Nintendo’s exclusive FromSoftware game The Duskbloods launches next year.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was originally supposed to launch this year but today it was announced that the game’s release date is getting pushed back to 2026.

The official statement read: “While development on Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition continues wholeheartedly toward release, we have decided to move the launch to 2026 to allow time for performance adjustments.

“We apologize to players looking forward to the game and thank you for your patience and support.”

In many ways this is actually a good thing as despite launching in 2022 Elden Ring continues to have performance issues on PC.

With that in mind God knows what wizardry FromSoftware is attempting to get the game running on the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s latest console is much more powerful than its predecessor but it’s not as powerful as the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, so some extra optimisation is likely needed to make it run as smoothly as possible.

“Game with framerate issues on pc in the big 2025 might have problems on a glorified tablet, who could have possibly foreseen this complication?” read one reply to the announcement.

Others are hoping the extra development time could lead to some new features being added to the game, such as a boss rush mode that’s been highly requested since the game launched.

In all likelihood the plan for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will remain the same. It’ll port the game to Nintendo Switch 2 and give existing players some new threads for their character.

For now Nintendo fans hoping to play the game on their new console will need to sit tight and wait for its new 2026 launch, though an exact release window wasn’t shared as part of the update. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later though.
