The hype FromSoftware fans had for The Duskbloods has dissipated now that it’s known multiplayer will be the core focus of the game.

The Duskbloods is an exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch 2 releasing sometime in 2026, and it caught us all off-guard when it was announced during this week’s Nintendo Direct.

As the trailer premiered many jokingly compared it to Bloodborne, until the name FromSoftware appeared on-screen and many wondered if the madlads had finally made Bloodborne 2, but for a different system.

In a way FromSoftware sort of has, but of course it’s distinct from Bloodborne as the property is still owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Nevertheless fans were hyped for the reveal, even though they needed to buy a brand-new console just to play it. That hype has since died down though since it was confirmed the title will be a multiplayer focused game.

“The disappointment is immeasurable” read a Redditor’s post about the game, upset that it’s not a traditional singleplayer title from the studio.

Fans pondered why FromSoftware would do this, with one theorising “My thinking is Nintendo really wanted that sort of thing to stretch the capabilities of the system and having FromSoft developing a game like that is huge. I'd doubt that this is FromSoft's only project in the chamber.”

Others aren’t so sure though, believing The Duskbloods and Elden Ring: Nightreign are both worrying signs of things to come, with one comment saying “NGL the two fairly back to back announcements of multiplayer-focused games does kind of have me worried about their plans for the future.”

Another added “my hype went down a few notches after learning of the multiplayer focus. A 30 fps-locked multiplayer-focused not-Bloodborne 2 exclusive to Switch 2 is Miyazaki trolling the fanbase on a whole other level.”

I’m holding back judgement till I’ve at least played Elden Ring: Nightreign, then we’ll know if FromSoftware can pull off a fun soulslike multiplayer game.
