Dino Crisis returns with a surprise Steam release after what feels like a 66 million-year wait.
Capcom is arguably best known for the Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter series; however, there is another, though you’d be forgiven if you assumed this series was extinct. That series is the aforementioned Dino Crisis.
Dino Crisis was first released on the original PlayStation in 1999, and was rightly dubbed as a ‘Resident Evil with dinosaurs’. That being said, comparisons aside, it was a fantastic enough game in its own right, and if it had appeared before Resident Evil, Dino Crisis may have held a place higher up the Capcom hierarchy.
“Raw Instinct takes over in this new, adrenaline-pumping journey into Survival Horror. Something is terribly wrong. Your covert mission has gone haywire… now you find yourself pursued by a relentless, prehistoric terror. Suddenly, your mission becomes a desperate fight for survival,” reads the synopsis of Dino Crisis.

Then in 2000, we had Dino Crisis 2, which may have looked the same as its predecessor, but it favoured more action instead of survival horror. Dino Crisis 2 tried something different, and for what it was, it was a fun game too. That being said, the less said about all the other games in the series, the better.
Fans have been calling for Capcom to either give us a brand new Dino Crisis using its RE Engine, Capcom’s in-house tech that has done such a wonderful job at crafting modern Resident Evil games. The other choice is a full remake from the ground up.
Sadly, despite Capcom putting out feelers with various questionnaires asking fans if they’d like Dino Crisis to return with a new game, it has not come to fruition at this time.
Last year, Dino Crisis made somewhat of a return, not only with the first game coming to PlayStation Plus, but both titles arrived on GOG, DRM-free. Now, they’ve both finally arrived on Steam.
As announced on the official Capcom social media channels, to celebrate its launch, until 26 February 2026, both games are available with a 50% discount. That means that both games cost just £3.99/$4.99 each, instead of £7.99/$9.99. So basically, it’s kinda like buy one, get one free.
That being said, as great as it is to see these games on Steam, if you want to buy these on PC, I’d strongly recommend picking them up via GOG.
The reason being, is that, as mentioned earlier, GOG games are DRM-free, meaning that you can play the games without any restriction of them being associated with a singular Steam account. In other words, you own the file you’ve paid for.
However, at the end of the day, the choice is yours, not anyone else's.
It’s just great that we now have at least one more platform where we can play Dino Crisis. According to the Steam pages, neither game is "Steam Deck Verified" just yet, but hopefully that will change sooner rather than later.
