Cyberpunk 2077 meets Metroid in stunning Unreal Engine 5 adventure

We’re fans of GTA as much as the next person, but sometimes you want to take a break from the sunny shores of Florida and explore somewhere far more futuristic. If that sounds like the kind of vacation you’re looking for, a new Unreal Engine 5 adventure might be for you.

Imagine this: Cyberpunk 2077, but with Metroid undertones and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse-esque graphics. Quantic River looks stunning – like an animated piece of art. Would you expect anything else from the Unreal Engine? Probably not, but this game looks so damn cool we’ve got to simp over it a little bit more.

How stunning is the upcoming Quantic River?

Story-wise, Steam’s Quantic River follows the adventures of a protagonist living in a “vibrant cyberpunk world” as they “explore dystopian urban landscapes”. Enhancement is the name of the game, with your character needing to adapt and upgrade in order to survive. Oh, and did I mention you cut your path through enemies with the sharp blade of a katana?

We know the new Cyberpunk 2077 romance scenes are enticing you in, but once you’ve seen everything that goes on behind closed doors, you’ll want to head out and live life in the fast lane once more. Quantic River will allow you to do that, all within a fresh new world you’ve not quite seen before; there are similar environments, but not exactly the same.

As far as we know, this indie action title will be for PC only, whether that’ll change depending on the game’s success upon release, we can’t say. According to its Steam page, there’s no release date scheduled, with the words “to be announced” filling in that blank.

Frustrating though that is, it gives you plenty of time to brush up on your sword skills – we don’t know if you’ll encounter space pirates in this postmodern sci-fi, but you’ll be fighting your way through the city against someone. Or something.
