The Sega crossover series Sonic & All-Stars is potentially making a return with a new game, and it's long overdue.

Sonic The Hedgehog has been making a bit of a comeback recently. Don't get me wrong, the blue blur has always been popular, but after several years of lacklustre releases, he's back with a vengeance with titles like Sonic Mania, Sonic Frontiers and the most recent Sonic Superstars.

Given his return to form, it's the perfect time for Sega to bring back a few spin-off series using his name, like Sonic & All-Stars, a collection of titles that unites Sonic with loads of other successful Sega IPs.

These were racing games, plus a tennis game, that featured the likes of Sonic, Super Monkey Ball, Crazy Taxi and more fantastic gaming icons. Despite there being limited releases, the series was quite a hit amongst fans.

Now fans are theorising the series could be coming back, as Sega recently renewed the copyright and domain names for the series.

The news was shared in a since-deleted Reddit post, and while many didn’t want to get their hopes up, they were still fairly optimistic that Sega might be considering a revival.

One fan hoped a new game would include Yakuza characters, especially considering how much more popular the series has become since the last All-Stars game in 2012. They said “Oh my god please let this happen. And Kazuma Kiryu and Ichiban Kasuga better be playable racers if that's the case.”

Another fan said: “It could be racing game or something different. Personally, I would love to see Sonic and Sega All Star Racing return with third installment.”

Another added: “Sakura Wars representation please Sega I'm begging you.”

Of course it has to be taken with a grain of salt, but given the success Sega has had over the last few years with some of its most popular IPs, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see another crossover game in the next few years.
