If you’re a fan of the FIFA/EA Sports FC series, as well as the indie hit, OlliOlli, then you’ll want to check out this free Steam demo for a promising new cosy game.
For decades, the FIFA football series was one of the most popular and lucrative video game properties on the planet. However, that all changed when Electronic Arts moved away from paying the world’s football governing body millions just to use its brand, to release EA Sports FC in 2023.
As for OlliOlli, this indie darling first launched in 2014 and won a legion of passionate fans. OlliOlli is a side-scrolling sports game that blends the art of skateboarding and the platforming genre. The success of the game resulted in two critically acclaimed sequels in 2015 and 2022, respectively.

The new game in question that blends FIFA/EA Sports FC and OlliOlli is called Kick, an indie game developed by nospacelost and published by Shoreline Games. Judging by its trailers, the gameplay of Kick looks like it could be a lot of fun, and it has a wonderfully cosy soundtrack to boot.

Kick will be released later this year~! #indiedev #indiegames #soccer pic.twitter.com/zQKsuCqcxU
The playable demo for Kick was released during Steam Next Fest earlier this year, but no release date was announced. That was until now. Well, it’s more of a release window, to be exact. That’s assuming, of course, it suffers no delay. Kick will arrive on Steam in November. A concrete date will be announced in the “months ahead”.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Kick, other than looking like a fantastic game, is that just one developer created it. The full game features 23 levels, where players must avoid all sorts of obstacles in the fastest time possible, while showboating your trickster football skills, and taking on additional challenges.
“The response to Kick this summer has been brilliant, and we're excited to spend the coming months introducing even more players to nospacelost's wonderfully charming world before the final whistle blows and Kick launches later this year," offered Keith Kawamura, CEO of Shoreline Games.
It remains to be seen whether Kick will come to consoles, which will most likely depend on its success following the full launch. Hopefully, it will, because it seems especially suited for the handheld nature of the Nintendo Switch.
In the meantime, be sure to download the free Kick demo on Steam, and add it to your wishlist, so that you’ll be notified when its full release date is confirmed.
