Red Dead Redemption 2 player finds godsend feature after 1900 hours

Why is it you only learn of incredibly useful quality-of-life features when you need them the least? That’s what one Red Dead Redemption 2 player is wondering having discovered a godsend of a feature… after playing over 1,900 hours!

To make matters worse, at least in terms of how long it took them to discover this, said feature is so ridiculously simple and obvious that it's borderline maddening that it’s taken so many this long to figure it out. If you already know this one, pat yourselves on the back, because many players are only just discovering you can back your horse up.

Wanna watch other epic wins and fails in RDR2? Of course you do!

I’m talking full-on reversing your horse like a wagon – no awkward, sudden turns that send you riding off in the wrong direction. No accidentally crashing into other riders and/or boulders. Just a quick tap of your right bumper will get you out of many tight spots and not just when riding your horse, because, you guessed it, you can back those wagons up too.

“YOU CAN BACK UP THE WAGON????” one shocked fan asked, while another admitted, “I have cancelled missions because I got stuck somewhere in a wagon”. It would seem that it isn’t just the horses giving people issues in RDR2, which I can fully relate to as a self-confessed awful driver and rider. I once went around a go-kart track the wrong way – I’m not to be trusted with transport of any kind.

Considering RDR2 has been crowned as “the best open-world game ever created”, having a horse you can ride with little to no struggles is a blessing. And while it’s sad that so many are only just discovering how easy the horses actually are to ride – “I'm halfway through my ninth and a fucking Reddit post is how I learn that you can back up horses…” complained one user – at least moving forward we can all make use of this knowledge.

So, saddle up and ride into your next playthrough, or current one, knowing your horse can back it up as good as anyone’s daddy taught them (if you don’t get that reference, you should be ashamed). Couple this godsend feature with the RDR2: Project New Austin 1907 expansion and you’ll be riding into a whole new game.
