It may have been released five years ago, but the praise for Red Dead Redemption 2 just never runs out. While the game is constantly amassing new fans, it also maintains a heavily devoted playerbase - many of whom have labelled Rockstar’s rootin’ tootin’ western release as ‘the best open-world game ever created’.

It’s easy to see why. To this day, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the best-looking games out there. We’re still awaiting news on a possible third entry but Rockstar are, of course, busy cooking up GTA VI. John Marston’s actor did recently drop a juicy tease though. Regardless, while we await an announcement, we can use this time as the perfect excuse to dote over what is hands down, one of the best there ever was. I’ll hastily admit, it’s not my number one open-world, but it’s certainly in the top five. However, fans flocked to Reddit to explain why for them, it’s unmatchable.

Take a look at some Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.

Reddit user Mohammadghandour824 kicked off the discussion, saying, “Seven years ago, Rockstar announced RDR2. Is it one of the top three games released in the last 10 years for you?” with the post garnering over 4,500 upvotes. Too__Official replied, “Best open-world game ever created, fight me.” Kevo_xx added, “I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise. Literally nothing else comes close!”

“I agree RDR2 is the most immersive and ambitious. I was hooked on RDR2 for a whole year during covid/lockdowns,” wrote spicywax94, plus darkhood1982 agreed, saying, “I think it would be one of the best games I have ever played and will remain there in that position for a long time to come.”

Plenty backed that sentiment. “Top game of all time for me and it will most likely remain that way for a long time,” commented Aqualungerr. You get the idea. If you haven’t yet played Red Dead Redemption 2, surely that’s left you convinced that you need to change that fact. Dive in - you won’t regret it.
