To many people, a video game’s graphics play a large role in how they rate a title. There’s nothing like exploring a virtual world and seeing realistic reflections on puddles and sunsets with colours that could rival a painter’s easel. One such game that manages these things is Red Dead Redemption 2 which despite being released over five years ago, still manages to look incredibly good.

Despite recent reports that Grand Theft Auto VI will be “lightyears ahead” on graphics than Red Dead Redemption 2, there is no denying that Rockstar Games don’t skimp when it comes to how its titles look. Originally released in 2018, the Red Dead Redemption sequel takes place in an 1899 interpretation of the United States. In a land filled with gunslingers, saloons and bayous, it manages to be one of the most beautiful video games of all time.

“Can't believe this game is about to have its 5-year anniversary,” said one user on r/redeadredemption2. “The graphics hold up unbelievably well”. They accompanied their praise with a small slideshow showing some images captured from the game. Capturing the game’s rocky mountains, misty sunrises over the lakes and views from the highest points, the point is really hammered home.

It seems as though many agree with the post garnering over 50 comments. “Coming from Starfield, it was a real slap in the face. This game is as gorgeous - if not more - than most AAA open world games nowadays. I was shocked,” read one. “And don't let me start on the incredible details, realism and NPC AI, it’s a freaking masterpiece.” Another comment compared Red Dead Redemption 2’s graphics to a few of Sony’s titles. “Yeah, this is the last game that had me staring in awe at the graphics. After it only GOW Ragnarök and TLOU II came close in terms of graphics.”

It remains to be seen if RDR2’s graphics will still hold up in another five years but for now, it is still a title to beat.
