The Xbox-exclusive Pentiment is now available on PlayStation 5, and for some reason it’s running better than the Xbox Series X/S version. In recent weeks there have been fears the Xbox brand would be stepping away from the console war, and shifting its focus to third-party gaming by making a number of exclusive games and franchises like Halo and Gears Of War available on other platforms. This was partially true, as four games have since been announced for launch on the PlayStation 5, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Sea Of Thieves and the topic of today’s discussion, Pentiment.

Take a look at Pentiment below

In short, Pentiment is a narrative-focused RPG that sees the player solve several grisly crimes as an artist. You wander through down, gathering clues and putting the pieces together to find the culprits. The game was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, best-known for Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds.

Pentiment is now available on the PlayStation 5, and in a shocking turn of events it runs better than the Xbox Series X/S version. On Xbox consoles the game is locked to 60fps, which isn’t the case on the PS5, which can play the game at 120fps.

Now before a mini console war kicks off it’s worth noting a few things. Firstly, Pentiment is not an action game, it's a 2D game with a stylised art style that really doesn’t need a high framerate to be enjoyable. Secondly, the developers of the game have commented on the 60fps Xbox lock, saying it’s due to a bug and will be bumped up to 120fps following a future update.

That being said the game has been out since 2022, and for that entire time it’s ran at 60fps and no higher, which begs the question why Xbox fans are only just getting confirmation of a framerate boost.
