Resident Evil fans divided over new announcement, and we get it

It’s good and bad news

Despite Resident Evil fans receiving great news during last night's State of Play, it left some feeling divided, and we get it.

Fans of Capcom’s legendary survival horror series, Resident Evil, were really hoping that Resident Evil 9 (currently not its official name) would be finally showcased to the world following its initial announcement in July 2024.

Unfortunately, there was no news on Resident Evil 9 whatsoever, which was somewhat disappointing. But we at least have Summer Game Fest this weekend.

On the flipside, we finally saw some gameplay for Silent Hill f, as well as a release date, so at least survival horror fans had something to celebrate.

However, we did get the announcement of the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis coming to PlayStation Plus Premium this summer, which is fantastic news.

As it stands, Resident Evil: Director's Cut is the only classic game in the series included in PlayStation Plus. So it’s great that this summer, the original Resident Evil trilogy will finally be preserved on modern PlayStation consoles.

As awesome as this news is, there are features that Resident Evil fans would love to see implemented, but it’s probably unlikely to happen.

Some of the best features of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut on modern PlayStation consoles are the ability to save anywhere at any point, and you can rewind gameplay. But unfortunately, it has no trophy support.

“It would be cool if Capcom implemented trophies, but based on the Director's Cut, it's unlikely,” said Redditor JCMGamer.

“I really hope these have trophy support. RE1 and Dino Crisis not having it is a shame,” exclaimed ViperKira.

“Please, Capcom, add trophies to the Resident Evil classics and Dino Crisis. Please!” pleaded Mando316.

“These should be free for anyone who previously bought them on the PS3. That was the case for Resident Evil: Director’s Cut,” added David_Soerensen.

“I bought Director's Cut for PS Vita and got it for free when it became available for purchase on PS5/4, so I'd say it's very likely,” replied MusoukaMX.

There’s no release date for when Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis will arrive on PlayStation Plus Premium, but given it's this summer, we won't be waiting long.
