We got a decent new look at Resident Evil Requiem after Gamescom last week, and it looks like the game is set to be one of the biggest releases at the start of 2026.
With the Resident Evil series being as popular as it is, I’m sure Capcom is hoping the new game’s return to its survival horror roots will usher in a load of new fans.
However, it appears that Resident Evil Requiem is set to be unplayable for millions, as the upcoming game will be skipping one major platform.
Resident Evil Requiem will not be releasing on PlayStation 4, and will instead be exclusive to the current console generation. That means if you’re a Resi fan on PlayStation, you’ll need to be on PS5 in order to play it.

Considering around 117 million PS4s have been sold in its lifetime, compared to the 49 million PS5 units that have been sold (as of November 2024), millions of gamers are set to not be able to play Resident Evil Requiem when it releases.
It also seems that this will be the first of the mainline Resident Evil games to not be available on PS4.
Everything from the original Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, all the way through to Resident Evil Village, can be played on PS4. So, Requiem will be the first time a main entry to the series can’t be played on that platform.
Obviously, this doesn’t count spin-offs that aren’t available on PS4, like Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

It’s a decision that makes sense though. The PS5 will be five years old by the time Requiem releases, and it’s about time Capcom prioritises building games for the current gen, rather than trying to retrofit them into last generation hardware.
Still, if you haven’t had the chance to make the leap to PS5 yet, you might want to consider it if you want to play Resident Evil Requiem.
